With Karachi Port functioning as Pakistan’s primary maritime hub, future growth requires precise prediction of navigational safety, dredging performance, and coastal environmental impacts. TCI led a highly sophisticated hydraulic regime study involving extensive multibeam bathymetry, ADCP current surveys, and advanced numerical modelling of waves, tidal flows, and sediment dynamics under multiple future port layout scenarios. The study explored risks of siltation hotspots, wave agitation at berths, turning basin optimization, and maneuverability for deeper-draft vessels. In tandem, TCI assessed the health of surrounding mangrove ecosystems, shoreline morphology changes, and encroachment and land-use transformation over the last two decades, using satellite and GIS-based analytics. The 2024 study now provides Karachi Port Trust with a science-based roadmap for sustainable dredging, climate-resilient infrastructure, and long-term port expansion planning.
